Hello!

I'm Carmen Hendrickson, currently a Senior at Iowa State University, majoring in Industrial Design. Design is not just a passion for me, everything we engage with has undergone a design and creation process. My primary goal is to connect with people through my designs and contribute to enhancing their daily experiences.

I am known for my unwavering ambition and relentless drive to exceed. I'm always on the lookout for fresh opportunities and experiences that expand my horizons. My primary areas of interest within the realm of design include Product Design, Design Engineering, and Architecture.

Through this portfolio, I aim to showcase my dedication to the world of design and the profound impact I aspire to make.

My Story

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and art has always been a passion and a dream of mine.  I have always been drawn towards creative endeavors, however, I also enjoy maths and sciences.  I learned about Industrial Design from my aunt, an architect, and believe that it provides a wonderful opportunity to blend my talents and interests.  I had the opportunity a few years ago, when I was in high school, to spend five weeks at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) learning firsthand how to design, build, and promote products.  The classes I took--Model and Prototype Development, and Introduction to Advertising--provided a good perspective on the entire lifecycle of creative ideas.  I had the opportunity to create physical models out of my own designs as well as experience the highs and lows of working with a larger creative team.  Subsequently, also a few years ago, I shadowed my aunt at her job as an architect with Portland Public School Districts.  I attended meetings with her, planning the designs for a new Portland Public High School.  These opportunities gave me real-life experience with what a career in design could be for me.

Now, I am in my third year in the Industrial Design program at Iowa State University, and it has given me amazing opportunities and experiences of what the design world is really like.  I am continuing to expand my knowledge and experience for a design career

Stubbs Engineering, Pleasant Hill IA

Stubbs Engineering - Civil Design Solutions (May ‘23 - Sept. ‘23)

Position: Drafter/CAD Tech

My role as a Drafter/CAD Tech at Stubbs Engineering was a pivotal chapter in my journey into the world of civil design. During this period, I had the privilege of working alongside a team of talented engineers, where I played a role in transforming abstract design concepts into concrete 2D and 3D drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

I worked closely with engineers to translate intricate design plans into comprehensive technical drawings that adhered to exacting engineering specifications.

Another essential aspect of my role involved reviewing and revising drawings with attention to detail. Accuracy and compliance with project specifications were paramount.

My time at Stubbs Engineering provided me with a deep understanding of the complexities of civil design and honed my technical skills. I now carry not only technical knowledge but also a profound appreciation for the importance of precision and collaboration in the field of engineering and design. These experiences will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors and contributions to the world of design.
